I’ve been tracking toy prices like a hawk, and this is one of the best times of the year—outside of Black Friday—to snag amazing 3 year old birthday gifts without breaking the bank. Retailers are clearing out old inventory and dropping prices on popular toys to kick off the spring season.

We’re seeing some genuinely fantastic deals right now, not just the fake “5% off” nonsense. I’m talking deep discounts on toys that will actually get played with for years. If you have a 3 year old’s birthday party on the calendar, this is your moment to stock up.

The Downside: If you have a kid who is still in a heavy chewing phase, you’ll want to supervise them, as the wood could potentially splinter.

 

 

Squishmallows Benito the Blueberry Cheesecake Cow

Priced from $12-$16, Squishmallows are always affordable, but keep an eye out for bundle deals that make them even cheaper. You really can’t go wrong with a Squishmallow as a gift for a 3 year old.

They are unbelievably soft and squishy, making them the perfect cuddle buddy for naptime or bedtime. Benito the Cow is ridiculously cute and a great addition to any growing collection.

The Downside: While they are machine washable, there’s always a risk that they won’t be quite as perfectly fluffy after a trip through the laundry.

 

 

What to Look for in April Toy Sales

The best deals this month are on outdoor toys and bigger playsets. Retailers are making room for new summer stock, so things like the Little Tikes trike and Micro scooter see some of their best prices of the year. If you need a “big” gift, now is the time to buy.

Don’t sleep on the smaller stuff, either. A 20% discount on LEGO or Magna-Tiles is a genuinely good deal because those brands rarely have massive price drops. They hold their value and their quality is unmatched, so any savings you can get is a bonus.
